Circulaire
By 2050, Amsterdam is striving to be a circular city. Circulaire is an online platform that allows citizens of Amsterdam to form climate initiatives of their own based on the needs of their specific neighborhood. In addition, the premise of the project suggests that there would be an active partnership with the city of Amsterdam to better understand the unique needs of each ecosystem within the city. Instead of attempting to tackle the problem from a disconnected, top-down approach by technocrats, the power of climate action can be taken into the hands of citizens to improve their neighborhood from a personalized standpoint.
Inspired by the Circular Innovation City challenge and the Go Game Changers Award, I began thinking of how I could use my skills as a designer to help battle climate change and advocate for sustainability. I found myself feeling guilty and powerless around the topic, not knowing how I could contribute as an individual. When I attended a climate activism workshop, these same feelings were reflected amongst the other participants.
I decided that a mobile application would be most suitable for this project, given the high accessibility of smartphones. I started by sketching rough layouts which I planned to later convert to Adobe XD to develop skills in UI.
Using Adobe XD, I created a variety of interfaces including the home page, about, neighborhood explorer, and an example of a specific neighborhood with location-specific climate initiatives and forum topics. Users can access their own neighborhood, or view other neighborhoods to understand topics and initiatives happening in other areas of the city. Finally, users can sign up for an account with the platform to access a personalized dashboard with their favorite topics.
I submitted the Circulaire project to the Go Game Changers Award and was nominated top three by a panel of three jurors.
